Since 1972, almost all boats imported or built in the US are required to have a HIN by the federal government. The HIN provides information about when and by whom the boat was built. With the Manufacturer database included in this app, HIN Search can also offer insight into the builder, such as their business status, address, and sometimes even their website.

What this app DOES NOT do:

• Retrieve boat model information beyond the year. This information is not universally encoded in the HIN. If the manufacturer is still in business, please contact them directly with your HIN.
• Confirm if a boat is stolen. While HIN Search can detect suspicious HINs that require further examination, it cannot definitively determine if a boat is stolen.
• Decode boat identification numbers for boats built before 1972.
• Provide information on past or current owners or sale details. Please contact your local vehicle registration authority for this information.
